About the Troupe...
The Desert Rhythms Middle Eastern Dance Troupe is a performing dance troupe located in Rochester, New York. Desert Rhythms consists of women from many walks of life brought together by the love of Middle Eastern dance and music. We endeavor to entertain, educate, and promote the art and culture of Middle Eastern dance. We meet regularly to practice, share our skills and ideas, and prepare for upcoming shows. A unique feature of Desert Rhythms is that our choreography is truly a team effort. Each dancer contributes according to her talent, experience, and creativity. Originally named the Bal Aziza Middle Eastern Dancers, Desert Rhythms is Rochester's oldest active Middle Eastern dance troupe, and is proud to claim a history of performance that extends back more than 30 years. The troupe's resume includes performances at the GEVA Theater, The George Eastman House, Cornhill Arts Festival, The Clothesline Arts Festival, Rochester River Challenge, Lilac Festival, New York State Fair, Monroe County Fair.
